We have done this hike before and the hike back up the cliffs is .80 miles. My 5 year old thought he was dying the first time he hiked back up, but this time he was happy and running and I was encouraging him the whole way how proud I was of him for doing so well this time. We had conversation all the way up while my husband stayed back with the 3 year old pacer.
We passed lots of hikers on the way and my 5 year old over heard two women talking about a marathon. He said "Mom they said marathon! I heard them talking about a marathon!!!" That's when it hit me! 1. Your kids really do pay attention to everything you say! 2. I am shaping my children, they are learning by everything that I DO! I was so proud that my 5 year old was excited when he heard the word marathon. This was a HUGE HUGE motivation booster for me. I asked him if I should do another one and he told me yes. He said he will wait for me at the finish line again. This completely warmed my heart and made me so happy! The thought of my children and my husband waiting for me at the finish line is what got me through the last 3 miles and him saying that brought back that heart warming feeling!
We had more conversation about why he was doing so much better climbing this trail. I told him that the more he does it, the easier it gets and soon he could be running the entire trail up, and he started trail running the rest of the way up. My husband told him that it was the good food that he ate that also fueled him to run better, and that Cheetos would have slowed him down (he wanted Cheetos for lunch), and I think he got it! He said he was going to keep eating his good food so we can come back and run up the trail. I was a proud momma for sure! I try not to let my kids eat put things in their bodies that I wouldn't put in mine. With that being said I still let them be kids and have their treats every once in a while sometimes more than I should, but I try to also remind myself if it's not good for me then why would I give it to them.
We need to always remember who is watching us. Even when we think they are not, our children are watching us. The people in our lives who look up to us are watching us. We can never give up for what we are fighting for! We have to lead by example.......
and our children's bodies......
Happy Monday XOXOXOXO
You have the most beautiful places to hike. I am so jealous. I think it's great that you and your husband are setting such good examples for you kids. They really do pay attention to everything we say and do!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great way to end the weekend! Have a fab week pretty girl! And I say go for another marathon.
ReplyDeleteThis is just too sweet. You live in the most beautiful place ever. You're so lucky to get to enjoy it with your family! Love it pretty girl:)
ReplyDeleteI'm a little teary from reading this post. Not because it's sad but because it's so inspiring to see that your little man got it and that he's rooting for you. I was just thinking that maybe I spend to much time running. I run 3x a week for approx 1-2 hrs. But after reading this I know it's right I'm showing my kids healthy habits and teaching them that you don't need butter and salt on all your food. I'll be able to run and play with them this summer because I'll be healthier. Thank you so much for sharing this. That is awesome that you get to hike somewhere so beautiful.
